Aalborg Portland chose Teamnetwork to build an innovative automated storage plant in Denmark, now in operation

Denmark, which in 2024 inaugurated the world's first cross-border CO2 storage site, is today the most advanced country in Europe in decarbonisation and storage. In this highly competitive regulatory and industrial context, Aalborg Portland A/S entrusted Teamnetwork with an automated storage plant.

Denmark, which in 2024 inaugurated the world's first cross-border CO2 storage site, is today the most advanced country in Europe in decarbonisation and storage. In this extremely competitive, selective and innovative regulatory and industrial context, Aalborg Portland A/S entrusted Teamnetwork with the construction of an automated storage plant (EPC) for co-grinding limestone at the Aalborg works, one of the largest in Europe.

By increasing the use of limestone in the white cement grinding process, clinker consumption can be reduced and, in proportion, so can the CO2 emissions of the production process.

All engineering and site activities were carried out by Teamnetwork personnel, with support from local companies, and the target was fully met: zero incidents, zero injuries.

With a capacity of 6,000 tonnes, the automated storage system is fully operational. Vehicles approach the building and traffic lights guide them to the unloading point. Using a network of sensors, the fully automated overhead travelling crane moves the limestone from the unloading pits to the storage area or to the hoppers which, through dosing systems and belt conveyors, feed the cement mills.

Teamnetwork also designed and built a customised solution to keep dust emissions to a minimum and comply with the target value of 9 mg/Nm³, using five dedusting units complete with filters, fans, rotary valves and screw conveyors.

Thanks to the commitment and the expertise built up by Teamnetwork and to the synergies with the Aalborg Portland staff, the new plant, which meets the strictest energy efficiency standards, is now fully operational and delivers excellent performance.
